Job Description

Ethio Impact Consulting Plc. is looking for a Senior Manager, Government Relations & Partnerships on behalf of a private company. The role holder is responsible for building and maintaining relationships with government and other key nutrition stakeholders, and for developing mutually beneficial partnerships to advance mission of the company. The role holder will also ensure that everything the company does in Ethiopia complies with the laws and regulations of the country.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Advocating for improved flour fortification compliance and enforcement, and to identify and develop collaboration opportunities with the government to maximize reach and scale. Champion the fortification policy and ensure the mandate is prioritized within all relevant ministries.
  • Execute strategies to build and maintain influential networks within the government through a structured approach to meetings and other engagements; identify new opportunities to work with highest-level political and executive leadership and cultivate partnership opportunities with government agencies. Ensure we have clear and robust MOUs with all relevant ministries.
  • Ensure all required licenses and regulatory approvals are secured for the company to ensure we are compliant with all relevant laws and policies; identify, track, and report on changes in the regulatory environment to ensure the company is always one step ahead.
  • With the Regional Director, identify partnership opportunities and develop proposals to make these happen. Ensure implementation is robust and delivers the expected outcomes.
  • Support the Regional Director in ensuring that the Business Development team is equipped with the skills and tools required for the job and is working in accordance with the company’s mission and objectives in Ethiopia.
  • Develop a clear map of key members of Government and other stakeholders, with contact details and a schedule for frequent engagement meetings and ensuring that appropriate messages are communicated in line with the company’s media policy and standards.
  • Map out and facilitate the scheduling and holding of regular stakeholder meetings and/or workshops, providing a platform to showcase company’s work, as well as ensuring that company is always invited to and attends all relevant fortification meetings and external stakeholder events.
  • Strong engagements with millers, local government authorities, labs and all aspects around fortification policies and compliance.
  • Identify and gain approval for tax/duty exemption opportunities for the company.
  • Ensure that all personnel at the company understand the importance of the Government Relations & Partnership strategy and how it relates to them, and that, where appropriate, they are fully involved in its implementation.
  • Carry out any other duties assigned from time to time by the Regional Director.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in food, Nutrition, Public Health, Consumer Science, Social Transformation (master’s degree preferred) or any other related field.
  • +5 years of demonstrable experience of successful leadership in a government relations and partnerships management role with evidence of previous achievements in the field.
  • + 5 years strong experience of advocacy with Ethiopian government bodies and with a strong understanding of power and politics in Ethiopia and how the government operates.
  • 5+ years of experience working in international/multicultural settings, navigating complicated issues involving multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong public speaking abilities and presentation skills with confidence to serve as the Company’s spokesperson. The role holder should possess an ability to synthesize complex messages and tailor communications to audiences.
  • Able to work with stakeholders at all levels of an organization. Experience of successfully developing networks and impactful, sustainable partnerships is essential with an ability to influence and persuade decision makers.
  • Knowledgeable in Food and Nutrition aspects and with a good understanding of related policies and strategies.
  • Strong personal ethics and passion for a multi stakeholder approach to drive company’s mission with an ability to identify opportunities and take calculated risks.
  • Strong entrepreneurship mindset to be able to work effectively with a wide range of cultures and levels of expertise.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret Country’s legislation and policy documents.
  • Strong attention to detail and follow-through with the ability to actively make decisions in a prompt manner, always seeking positive results.
  • Well networked and able to call on advice from qualified third parties where necessary.
  • Strong data analytical skills and an ability to synthesize this into action.
  • Technical understanding of Government policies, regulations and standards
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Amharic.
  • Willingness to travel outside of Addis Ababa and even Ethiopia when needed.
  • A demonstrated passion for the company’s mission.
