Research and Development Officer
Job Description
Ethio Impact Consulting Plc is seeking a Research and Development Officer on behalf of a private company.
Under the supervision of the Managing Director or Deputy Managing Director, the R&D Officer is responsible for driving product innovation and continuous improvement across our portfolio of furniture, home appliances, and finishing materials. The role focuses on researching market trends, developing new product concepts, and optimizing existing products to maintain a strong competitive advantage in the Ethiopian market.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Conduct in depth research on local and international market trends, consumer preferences and competitor products to identify opportunities for innovation.
- Lead the ideation, design and development of new products from concept to final prototype in collaboration with the manufacturing team.
- Evaluate and source new materials, technologies and manufacturing techniques to enhance product quality, durability, and cost effectiveness, including sustainable options.
- Improve the design, functionality and aesthetics of existing products by analyzing customer feedback and performance data.
- Collaborate with quality assurance teams to establish and maintain strict quality standards.
- Maintain detailed documentation of research activities, product specifications, and testing results.
- Work closely with manufacturing, marketing, and sales teams to ensure smooth transitions from product development to market launch.
- Contribute to the company’s long-term innovation strategy to sustain industry leadership.
- Demonstrate strong knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes (e.g., woodworking, metal fabrication, plastics).
- Utilize design software such as CAD and SolidWorks effectively.
Requirement
- Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science or a related field (Master’s degree is an advantage).
- Minimum of 2 years of experience for Master’s holders and 4 years for Bachelor’s degree holders in an R&D role, preferably within furniture, home goods or related manufacturing industries.
- Experience in research and development within furniture manufacturing is a plus.
