Job Description

The Store Keeper is responsible for the safe receiving, secure storage, accurate issuance, and meticulous recording of all project materials, tools, equipment, and consumables. Acting as the custodian of the project’s physical assets, the Store Keeper ensures that the site team has the right materials at the right time while preventing loss, theft, damage, or spoilage. This role requires a strict adherence to inventory control procedures, accurate record-keeping, and close coordination with the site engineering and procurement teams.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Receive all incoming construction materials, tools, and equipment delivered to the site or project warehouse.
  • Verify the quantity, quality, and specifications of delivered goods against the Purchase Orders (POs), Delivery Receipts (DRNs), and approved Material submittals.
  • Inspect materials for transit damage or defects (e.g., checking cement bag dates, inspecting rebar for excessive rust) and immediately report/reject non-conforming goods to the Procurement team and Site Engineer.
  • Organize and maintain the store/warehouse layout to ensure efficient space utilization, easy access, and clear identification of all items.
  • Ensure proper storage conditions are maintained to prevent material degradation (e.g., storing cement on pallets in a dry, ventilated area; keeping chemicals away from heat sources; securing high-value tools in locked cages).
  • Implement and maintain the FIFO (First-In, First-Out) system, especially for materials with a shelf life (like cement, adhesives, and chemicals).
  • Maintain cleanliness and order in the store, adhering to 5S workplace organization principles.
  • Issue materials, tools, and PPE to the site team only upon receipt of an officially approved Material Requisition Note (MRN) signed by authorized personnel (e.g., Site Engineer or Project Manager).
  • Ensure that no materials leave the store without proper documentation, strictly enforcing the “No Paper, No Issue” policy.
  • Manage the issuance and return of reusable tools and equipment, ensuring broken or worn-out tools are returned before issuing new ones.
  • Prepare and submit Daily Stock Movement Reports, Weekly Inventory Status Reports, and Monthly Reconciliation Reports to the Head Office.
  • Manage the documentation of surplus or scrap materials, coordinating with the Site Engineer to return unused materials to the store to minimize waste.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree (BA) or Diploma in Accounting, Economics, Management, Logistics/Supply Chain, or a closely related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 8 to 10 years of proven experience in storekeeping, inventory management, or warehouse supervision.
Highly Preferred: Prior experience working as a Store Keeper in the construction, engineering, or manufacturing sector. Familiarity with construction materials is a massive advantage.
