Job Description
The Cost Section Head is responsible for leading and managing the organization’s cost accounting, inventory valuation, and cost control functions. This role serves as the critical bridge between the Finance department and Operations/Production, ensuring that product costs are accurately captured, manufacturing variances are analyzed, and profitability is maximized. The Cost Section Head will oversee standard costing, budget preparation, margin analysis, and the continuous improvement of cost-accounting systems and processes.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and update standard costs for all finished goods, semi-finished goods, and raw materials.
- Review and validate Bills of Materials (BOMs) and production routings in collaboration with the Engineering and Production departments.
- Calculate and allocate manufacturing overheads, labor rates, and machine hour rates accurately across different cost centers.
- Investigate the root causes of significant variances and present actionable findings to the Plant Manager and Operations team.
- Monitor production scrap, waste, and rework costs, recommending process improvements to minimize financial leakage.
- Track and control departmental operating expenses against approved budgets.
- Coordinate and supervise regular cycle counts and the annual physical inventory audit.
- Analyze inventory aging and calculate provisions for slow-moving, obsolete, or damaged stock (E&O inventory).
- Monitor inventory turnover ratios and work with Supply Chain to optimize working capital.
- Identify bottlenecks in cost-capture processes and implement automated or streamlined workflows.
- Ensure internal controls related to inventory and costing are strictly enforced and compliant with corporate policies and external audit requirements.
- Act as the primary point of contact for external auditors regarding inventory and costing inquiries.
Requirements
- BA/MBA with Accounting and finance Business Administration, or a related field & should have Peachtree and IFRS training.
- 8/6 years of related work experience
- Minimum of 2 to 3 years of experience in a supervisory or managerial role leading a finance team.
