Job Description
Our client is looking for a dedicated, enthusiastic Communications Associate with strong writing skill, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and solid partnership & stakeholder engagement skill. The Communications Associate is responsible for assisting in the provision of strategic direction and support to the Ethiopia’s projects, as well as in the development and implementation of a communication and advocacy strategy. This will include working closely with stakeholders, and consortium members of projects in Ethiopia and in home office as applicable; assist in designing and producing communication tools and materials; support in the coordination of external support.
The Communications Associate will both receive information from field staff and go to the field to collect relevant content for professional communication activities such as pictures, videos, beneficiary stories, and testimonies to generate more media coverage through targeted communication activities. The Communications Associate will be required to work or assist in the work with external consultants.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
1. Assist in the development of communication strategy plan
- Collaborate with the Communications Officer and management to develop and implement an effective internal and external communications strategy.
- Assist in identification of main media channels (including social media) for effectively communication with main target audiences.
- Support in liaising with stakeholders on the design, implementation and monitoring of the communication strategy, including but not limited to consortium members, the target beneficiaries, consultants, stakeholders and donors amongst others.
- Collaborate with media partners such as community radios, press, online media etc.
- Conduct surveys of beneficiaries to understand their views, and prepare educational materials
- Acquire and maintain a detailed knowledge of the organization’s policies, principles, and strategies, and keep up-to-date with relevant developments.
- Support in the evaluation communication campaign results
2. Development and production of communication material
- Work with implementing partners, consortium members, field staff to collect information and document project activities, achievements and learning.
- Take photos/videos of various programs, interview beneficiaries and key stakeholders, participate in key events and document important project visits.
- Prepare and supervise the production of publicity brochures, handouts, direct mail leaflets, promotional videos, photographs, films and multimedia programs
- Maintain digital archives of photos and videos
3. Partners / stakeholders engagement
- Foster good community relations through involvement in community initiatives
- Build strong relationships and networks with consortium members and stakeholders
- Seek opportunities to enhance the reputation and brand of the organization, and coordinate publicity events as required.
4. Internal project communication
- Assist in the management of information flow between consortium members and promote joint learning.
- Assist in the development of good understanding of communities, beneficiaries and stakeholders, and how each consortium member interacts with them.
- Support information flow between the consortium members and participating stakeholders such as beneficiaries (direct/indirect), community leaders, regional/woreda government officials, direct service providers, relevant education staff, health workers, etc.
- Assist in all communication issues within the consortium and keep everyone up to date on key project areas with reader-friendly information at the right time.
- Assist in the production of reports by providing relevant documentation, stories, and photographs amongst other communication material.
- Participate in key project visits and document such visits.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree in Communication, Public Relations or related discipline.
- Competence in computer skills is a MUST (Adobe, word art, word processing and other relevant
packages).
Experience
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar position. Experience in working within a consortium with multiple partners.
- Fluent in English language, oral and written.
- Sound social media experience including experience in developing and implementing social media strategies.
- Experience in the production of IEC material, photography, and story writing
- Experience in designing and engaging youth in youth-friendly communication activities.
- Experience in the use of design applications.
- Understanding of legal frameworks around informed consent.
- Experience in youth-led advocacy/civic engagement and development processes at different levels.
